The Brutus Chair.
This is the Brutus Chair which has a backrest formed from a sculpture of the legendary Trojan War figure of Brutus from 1008 BC , said by some to have landed at Totnes, Devon before naming the island of Britain and Totnes after his own name Brutus and homeland city of Troy.
Newly completed and seen here without any wood finish applied. The wooden sculpture is modelled on an original ceramic by the late well known ceramicist John Maltby.

Beeswax and Walnut oil polish is used to preserve and enhance the surface of this rocking chair made from Ash, Beech and Hickory hardwoods. Nothing artificial is added to the wood surface, in fact it is edible polish. The wood is slow grown hardwood and I try to best reveal what is beneath the outer layers and enhance them with an eye for its beauty. Remember that even if you scratch or stain the surface, underneath is layer upon layer of the same again, that can always be revealed afresh.

Folding chair in Ash
Newly made on commission for a fellow market trader and constructed to withstand use and abuse. Having steam bent and laminated legs that are pegged and locked together with bamboo pins. The hard wearing cloth seat is approximately 22 in high but exceptionally comfortable in use for the busy man needing to rest his legs up and down at work.
